A cancer diagnosis can carry with it a variety of legal issues, including insurance coverage, employment discrimination, access to health care, and estate planning. These legal issues can cause people unnecessary worry, confusion, and stress, and can be overwhelming. When these legal issues are not addressed, people may find that although they have gotten through treatment, they have lost their homes, jobs, or insurance. The CLRC has a national, toll-free Telephone Assistance Line (866-THE-CLRC) where callers can receive free and confidential information about relevant laws and resources for their particular situation. Members of the CLRC's Professional Panel can provide more in-depth information and counsel to CLRC callers.

True North Treks - Young Adult Cancer Survivors Charting a New Course. True North Treks is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young adult cancer survivors by connecting with nature, other survivors, and oneself. A cancer diagnosis and its treatment can demagnetize one's life compass and lead to an unknown path that was neither expected nor desired. Things like school, work, social activities, emotional health, relationships or career plans can all become interfered with or altered. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, family and friends, there are simply times when a person with cancer can feel lost or "dis-oriented."

At True North Treks we help adolescent and young adult cancer survivors learn ways to become re-oriented, set new coordinates and chart a new course through short term experiences in nature centered around the training of "survival skills for survivors." Transitioning from a treatment room or medical facility to camping gear and a remote trail head, True North Treks participants engage in an innovative experiential learning curriculum that facilitates the cultivation of Mindful Awareness Practices and Outdoor Leadership Skills Training.

What Makes a Great Nurse - Nurses work in many different capacities, reacting efficiently in emergencies, providing proper treatment and care and offering compassion and sympathy to sick patients and their families. A great nurse is more than just a healthcare provider; the nurse is a caregiver, a support system and, oftentimes, a friend. The most celebrated nurses exhibit these duties in their everyday work, while also showing a sincere devotion to the values of human dignity and the pursuit of wellness.

The Working Nurse -  In recent years, there’s been a lot of talk in the nursing world about education: advanced degrees, certifications and training in the latest technologies. However, this nurse has long believed that all the certifications and degrees in the world are no substitute for good basic nursing skills, including attention to detail, listening and, most important of all, a deep and abiding compassion for all the patients under your care.
